Year R Oak and Willow
WELCOME TO OAK AND WILLOW
OAK - Mrs Picken and Mrs Kent
WILLOW - Mrs Cooper and Miss Hurd
A very warm welcome to you all. We are so delighted with the super start the children have made this week and look forward to a fun packed half term. We are looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks and months as we work together to support your child’s learning and development in their first year at school. We will send regular newsletters, via email, each half term to give you useful information and important dates for your diaries. We will also send you regular overviews of the learning activities we have planned which are linked to various themes.

Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your child’s PE kit. We will have P.E. lessons every week on a Monday and Thursday, both inside in the school hall and outdoors. Please make sure that your child has a named P.E. kit consisting of trainers, a white t-shirt, black shorts/ leggings and a warm black tracksuit. If you have not yet sent in your child’s kit please send it in to school before Wednesday; you don’t have to take it home each day, or at the end of each week – a wash over half term will be plenty!
Bringing home books from school:

Your children will have chosen two of our ‘Reading for Pleasure’ books to bring home and which are to be shared regularly with you over the course of the week. They have also got a home reading record, which you can tick/sign and add comments to each time that you read with them. Reading records are checked regularly by one of the staff, so please don’t forget to send it in. All reading books will need to be returned every Monday and children will choose another two books to bring home for the week. Additional information about reading at Nunnery Wood will be sent out.
Wellies:

All children need a pair of wellies to keep in school for use in the outdoor area. Please send a named pair in by Friday 18th September as this will be our first woodland session.
Forest School:
Please send your children in wearing their forest school clothes (long sleeved top, trousers and waterproofs) and school shoes on a Friday morning. Please send in their uniform in a bag as we will get changed after Forest School. Children will bring home their Forest School clothes every week but we will keep wellies at school.

Water Bottles: All children need their own named water bottle in school every day, with water to drink! We encourage all children to drink water regularly during the school day and your support in promoting this is very much appreciated.
Celebrating birthdays in school:

We always love to celebrate each child’s birthday, giving children the chance to talk about any special presents or activities they have had, and singing ‘Happy Birthday’ with our special ‘cake’ and hat. However, as a ‘Healthy School’ we do not give out cakes or sweets on birthdays and ask that you do not send any in with your child.
Things to remember:

- If you have not already, PLEASE make sure that you have checked for an activation email from Arbor and used it to activate and log into our Arbor system. If you are having any problems doing this, please call into or ring the school office where Mrs Cole will be able to help you.
- Could we please ask you to send in any family photos to add to our wall. The children love seeing their photos on the wall and sharing them with their friends. If you are unable to print a photo out, please email us the photo and we can print it.
- All PE kits to be in school.
- Book bags with books sent in daily.
If you or your child have any questions, worries or concerns, don’t wait to make a special appointment - just come and see one of us – our door is always open. We know what a big step starting school is for you and your child and no question or problem is too big or too small! We would rather deal with a small concern straightaway than have you wait until it is a bigger problem. It is great to see the children already making a super start to the year; we are all looking forward to building a strong partnership with you. Thank you for your support.
Best wishes from the Early Years Team,
