Governors
The Local Governing Body is a team of volunteers who willingly give their time, working with school staff to ensure the best possible provision for children.
At Nunnery Wood Primary School we have a strong Governing Body and a Clerk. Membership comprises of:

Andy McClelland - Parent Governor/Vice Chair 27/02/23 - 26/02/27
Andy became a parent governor at Nunnery Wood Primary (NWPS) in April 2019 when his two sons attended the school. Since 2022, he has been a Co-opted Governor, Chair of the Finance & Staffing Committee and Vice Chair. Andy works as a senior manager for a multinational energy technology company. As a governor, his aim is to use his experience in leadership, management, finances and problem-solving to support the Head Teacher and staff to provide the best education for all the children in the school.
Andy has no additional financial or business interests and is not a governor elsewhere.
Chris Husband - Chairman- co-opted Governor 7/10/2026 - 6/10/2030
Chris became a parent governor at the end of 2022 as he hoped he could add some value to the governors' team and the school in their aims to continually improve the school and outcomes for the students. Chris has twins in year 6, and has really enjoyed the role. He is currently an Assistant Headteacher at a school for secondary-aged students with social, emotional and mental health issues in Sandwell, and hopes to bring some of his experience and knowledge to the table to support Mrs. Higgins and her team.
Outside of school, he has a love of football and has been a referee for 25 years, currently acting as an Assistant Referee in the EFL. He enjoys most sports, eating out and generally trying his best to occasionally be in charge of his household!!!

Rachel Higgins - Headteacher
Rachel has been the Headteacher of Nunnery Wood Primary School since September 2015, and feels very fortunate to have a Governing Body that is so committed to the continual improvement of our school. Doing the best for pupils is at the heart of all decision-making, and we work hard together to ensure we provide the best education for all children.
Rachel is also a headteacher advocate for Cranham Primary School and has no additional business or financial interests.
Jo Hart - Parent Governor 06/03/2023 - 05/03/2027
Jo has been parent governor at Nunnery Wood Primary School since March 2023, and she has two girls currently at the school in years 5 and 6. Jo became a parent governor because she wanted to go the extra step in supporting her children and other students' education. Her role has given Jo valuable insight into the school, and she will continue to support the school to remain a safe and enjoyable environment for all. Jo has no additional financial or business interests and is not a governor elsewhere.Dom Prosser - Parent Governor 01/09/2026 - 31/08/2030
Dom is both a former pupil of NWPS and a current parent and is proud to have a longstanding connection with the school. He attended NWPS from 1996 to 2003 and is delighted to now see his son enjoying his own journey at the school. Dom has worked in the financial services and banking sector for over 15 years and became a school governor in 2026. He was keen to take on this role as an opportunity to give back to a school that played an important part in his own development, while supporting the fantastic work being carried out for the current and future students. Dom is committed to helping the school achieve its vision and values and to ensuring that all pupils have the best possible opportunities to succeed. Dom has no additional financial or business interests and is not a governor elsewhere.
Richard Bidwell - Staff Governor 01.09.2023 - 31.08.2027
Richard is the staff governor. He has been working at the school since April 2019 as the Deputy Headteacher. He is a staff governor to provide a bridge between the governing body and school staff, representing an insight into day-to-day school life. He has a passion for ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive on their own school journey through primary education.

WHAT IS THE GOVERNING BODY RESPONSIBLE FOR?
The Governing Body has three main roles:
- to provide strategic direction for the school
- to act as a critical friend to the headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and the school team
- to ensure accountability
