Welcome to the start of a new school year! It is lovely to have the children back at school and to see them settling quickly into the new routines. This newsletter will give you information you need for the weeks ahead – your support with everything detailed here is greatly appreciated.

Home Learning and Reading Record Expectations:

• Reading: children are expected to read at least five times every week and record their reads in their Reading Records. As well as reading to themselves, we hope they will also read aloud to an adult at least three times each week to help develop their fluency and accuracy. In order to support vocabulary development, we ask that children record three unfamiliar or interesting words with their meanings each week. We encourage children to take responsibility for this, however we do ask that an adult signs their record book to confirm each entry. Reading Records will be checked in school every Friday and book tokens will be awarded if appropriate. A draw will take place at the end of each half term for the chance to win a book. We understand that very occasionally it may not be possible to read five times during a week, therefore should you have any problems, please do send in a signed note or have a quick chat with one of us at the classroom door.
• Times Tables and Division Facts: all children need to demonstrate rapid recall of their multiplication and division facts to 12 x 12. We ask you to support your child with this whenever you can (little and often is usually the best strategy!). Practice sheets will be brought home each Thursday. Please read the additional letter about our Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs).
• Maths/English: a short piece of weekly home learning will be given out each Friday to embed aspects of our maths or English curriculum. It is expected to be completed and brought into class by the following Monday, so that we can mark it together.

Uniform: We expect children to come smartly dressed in their correct school uniform at all times. Black school shoes should be worn (no boots or trainers) with black socks or tights. If a child’s school shoes are misplaced or damaged, a note from parents should be handed to the class teacher. A watch may be worn, but no jewellery is permitted, other than a small pair of studs. Hair longer than shoulder length should be tied back with small, school-coloured hair accessories.

Snacks: Children are welcome to bring in a healthy snack (fruit or vegetables) to have at break time. Water bottles should also be brought in each day.

Mobile Phones: Mobiles may be brought into school if absolutely necessary. They will be locked away and returned at the end of each day. Please note, they must be switched off at all times when on site. Please read sign the school contract if you intend to send your child in with a phone.

SATs Chat: Thursday 14th January at 5pm.  We will aim to answer the following questions:  When and where will SATs take place? What do Year 6 SATs involve? How will my child’s learning be developed and supported this year? What knowledge and skills will my child be taught this year in English and Maths? What types of questions do SATs papers include? How can I support them at home?
