Nunnery Wood Primary School

Year 3 Spruce and Sycamore

Welcome to Year 3's class page! The Year 3 staff are:

Teachers - Miss Banks (Sycamore) & Mrs Reid (Spruce)

Teaching Assistants - Mrs Sayakkara, Mrs Morgan-Price & Mrs Evans

We are delighted with how well the children are settling into their new KS2 routines. We are really looking forward to the year ahead with many exciting learning opportunities planned for the children. As you know, Mrs Reid is teaching in Spruce class, and Miss Banks is teaching in Sycamore. We share Learning Support Assistants across the year group to benefit all children; we are very lucky to have Mrs Morgan-Price, Mrs Evans, Mrs Collins and Mrs Sayakarra in Year 3!

This newsletter will give you information you need for the weeks ahead – your support with everything detailed here is greatly appreciated.

Home Learning:

 Weekly, children are expected to:

  • read five times a week at home; three of these need to be reading out loud to an adult (reading journals returned to school to be checked every Friday). Please remember to sign your child’s journal every time they have read. Teachers use reading diaries in KS2 as a way of monitoring progress, so it is vital they are in school and signed.

  • Practise their mental maths – we have an interclass competition which is a weekly ‘Maths Challenge’ on Tuesdays. For most of the year this will be a times tables challenge, however for this half term we really wanted to ensure that the children develop their quick recall of number bonds.

Uniform: We expect children to come smartly dressed in their correct school uniform at all times. Black school shoes should be worn (no boots or trainers) with black socks or tights. If a child’s school shoes are misplaced or damaged, a note from parents should be handed to the class teacher. A watch may be worn, but no jewellery is permitted, other than a small pair of studs. Hair longer than shoulder length should be tied back with small, school-coloured hair accessories.

Snacks: Our expectation is children may bring a fruit or vegetable snack only. As part of our commitment to being a healthy school, we kindly ask that children do not bring sweets, chocolates, or other treats into school to hand out to their friends for any occasion. We must be mindful of allergies and dietary requirements, which means we cannot safely share food items among the children. We really appreciate your support with this.

PE:

Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school, for indoor and outdoor PE sessions, in school always, and that every item is named. They need black shorts/leggings and a t-shirt for indoor lessons and joggers, a black, warm zipped top and trainers for our outdoor sessions. Our PE days are Mondays and Fridays.

Forest School:

The children will have forest school sessions in the autumn term. For both classes, they will attend forest school every Friday up until the October half term break – we will let you know if there are any changes to this routine. Children require long-sleeved tops and long trousers, wet weather clothing and wellies/old trainers.

Important Information:

To ensure your child does not miss out on any of the exciting learning, please make sure they attend school every day, unless they are too poorly. Also, to make sure our day starts well, please make sure that they are in school for 8:35am, ready for our morning task.

When dropping your children off in the morning, we expect the children to walk up the ramp independently – otherwise, it is a little crowded! If you wish to speak to the teachers about a brief matter, please wait until the majority of the children have entered school. For longer conversations, an appointment will be required – please contact the school office and this can be arranged. Any Arbor related queries, including school dinners and booking trips/clubs, also need to go through the school office. Thank you to the parents who have waved at us to let us know who you are when sending your child home; it’s appreciated as we are getting to know both children and families!

Key dates:

  • Parents evening: Tuesday 10th November – 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Wednesday 11th November – 3:30 – 7pm.
  • KS2 party day: Wednesday 16th December.

If you have any queries, please do phone or email the office and the message will get passed onto us, or catch us at the end of the day.
